Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. The Medill School of Journalism invites Howard Reich to show “Prisoner of Her Past” to the National High School Institute, a summer program for gifted teenagers (nicknamed “cherubs’). The audience barely stirs during the screening, leading Howard to wonder if the young viewers can relate to this story. When the film comes to an end, however, the students erupt into applause – and an avalanche of questions. One hour later, the group disbands, but several students wait in line to tell Howard the facts of their grandparents’ traumas: in the Holocaust, in America’s internment camps for Japanese and in World War II POW stockades.
